3 Places to Control Allergens in Your Home

Did you know that allergies are the sixth leading cause of chronic disease in America? Allergies affect more than 30 percent of adults and an alarming 40 percent of children.

Allergens, the foreign substances responsible for causing allergies, are present all around us here in Florida. Fortunately, there are things you can do to help reduce allergens inside your home.

Kitchen

Food allergies are on the rise in America. The major foods that cause allergies are milk, tree nuts, fish, eggs, and soy. If you or a family member are allergic to any of these foods, it’s imperative that you keep these foods out of the house. Secondly, allergens can exist in the air and in drinking water. For the kitchen, it’s important to have a hood over the range. You will also want to install a water purifier wherever possible.

Bedrooms

One of the best ways to keep allergens out of bedrooms is to keep this area pet-free. As much as you may love your furry friends, they can be carriers of allergens. Another great way to keep allergens to a minimum in this area is to use bedroom slippers and leave the shoes you walk outside the house with at the house entrance. Keep moisture levels down through the use of a dehumidifier. Eliminate carpets and keep the floors tiled.

Bathrooms

Bathrooms are the ideal breeding ground for molds and fungi because of the moisture and humidity of the rooms. This is why it’s crucial that all bathrooms are well ventilated and kept dry at all times. Regular weekly cleaning of the tiles, walls, and bathing area with bleach will help keep microbes to a minimum.

One of the best ways to eliminate allergens in the air is to keep the AC system in good working order. Clean the AC regularly using bleach and water. If it’s faulty, call in professionals such as Advanced Air Care at 850-688-9265.
